New Director of Alliances, Rachael Cotton-Bronte

Rachael has broad experience and deep expertise in the technology sector, having held senior executive roles at Google, HP, IBM and Samsung. Passionate about health, Rachael started her career as a nurse and has remained active in the health sector throughout her career.

GPs break records with online Work and Income Work Capacity Medical Certificates

GP uptake of the new online Work Capacity Medical Certificate has been exceptional — with nearly 70,000 submitted online in the first four months. Approximately 430 practices are now using the form to electronically submit 1,200 certificates each day. This is the fastest adoption of a new service in our 21 years of operation!

Electronic submission provides benefits to GPs, patients and Work and Income. With patient information pre-populating into the form, GPs save time compared to completing a written form. Electronic submission directly to Work and Income saves thousands of patients a return visit to their local Work and Income office to hand in their form. The information from the online form is directly transferred into the Work and Income database — eliminating manual processing that is required for physical forms.

Over 8,000 CareSelect eReferrals sent

CareSelect revolutionises the way GPs search, find and refer patients to the most suitable care, including private specialists, allied health providers, non-government organisations and even other GPs.

Available nationwide since July, 259 different medical organisations have received a referral from one of the 300 general practices using CareSelect. This has revolutionised the number of medical organisations that can benefit from electronic communication. The Hepatitis Foundation of New Zealand has already received a significant number of referrals from CareSelect. Susan Hay, Hepatitis B Operations Manager, says, "We expect our referral numbers will continue rising as awareness of this service increases. This system cuts down the amount of paperwork required to refer patients for additional specialised care. CareSelect has become the preferred method of referral for many practitioners."

Record of over 1,700 eReferrals sent in a day!

Usage of our eReferrals platform has continued to grow, with over 1,700 eReferrals received by public health providers across New Zealand on peak days. This world-class platform is widely used across New Zealand by Northland, Auckland, Waitemata, Counties Manukau, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay, Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley District Health Boards.

Approximately 1,100 eReferrals are made each day across just three of these District Health Boards - Auckland, Waitemata and Counties Manukau. Referrers can send over 53 different forms to 67 services across the DHBs. The system automatically detects the best service location for the patient based on their home address (NHI) and where that particular service is available. Approximately 75% of all referrals in Auckland are now electronic.

The ability to send eReferrals will soon be extended to healthcare providers without electronic medical record systems. This will be made possible through a web portal HealthLink has been developing in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
