Using eLab, a practitioner can place an order from within their EMR (electronic
medical record system). This process automatically inserts the patient,
practitioner and practice details into the order. At completion the order is
available electronically, in real time, at the designated laboratory.
The key benefit of this system is automatic, accurate, electronic data
entry in the laboratory information system without manual intervention. A
searchable electronic order contains the specimen collection and processing
instructions, essential clinical data and any one-off contact details that can
be added by the practitioner when ordering. Analysis and results are sent to the
practice as directed by the order via the usual laboratory reporting methods.
